Mercury enters Capricorn: January 27th at 14:33 EST
Mercury finally moves out of Sagittarius and away from being in the same sign as Saturn but now it moves into Saturn’s sign of Capricorn where hard work will pay-off with writing and communication projects. Still this transit is not without afflictions with a movement toward Ketu later in the month and Rahu across the way and then eclipses are occurring in the Capricorn/Cancer axis disrupting communications or create surprises.
The first part of the transit is in the constellation of Uttara Ashadaha, ruled by the Sun between January 25 – February 2nd. The next constellation of Shravana (Capricorn 10-23.20) February 2nd — 10th is more problematic as Mercury is more uncomfortable with the Moon’s more feeling nature of connection with others, even though this will bring material success. Thankfully, Mercury flourishes in this satvic constellation when Mercury is particularly strong and understands using the intellect for the good of others and to develop spiritual wisdom.
Mercury and Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, are friends and it is a 5th house transit for Virgos bringing more joy with children, romance and spiritual initiations and sports and given Mercury’s nature, game nights and word games and crosswords might flourish. Gemini rising has more problem with this 8th house transit and unexpected surprises connected to legal problems, health issues could arise. Libras and Taurus rising probably benefit more than Leos, Cancers or Scorpio rising.
Saturn is still in the troubled constellation of Mula (Sagittarious 0-13.20) until March 3rd so it brings a lot of regret from the past and challenges as the material world is uprooted to move us toward spirituality. Its influence on Saturn continues over the next few months with Capricorn and Aquarius connected to Saturn. Mercury/Saturn connections can create shrewd business transactions, especially for those in the technological field and can also create deep analytic thinking, strong mathematical abilities if you use the time to focus. It could lead to more restricted thinking and belief structures.
Mercury moves toward conjunction with Ketu exactly into February 9th in the true node system. Mercury conjunct Ketu into February 9th can create mental chaos, confusion anger, mental imbalance, a mind filled with surprises and a desire to change everything. Mercury, a benefic, will uplift the disturbing eclipse energies but the affliction to itself will disturb communication and probably create a new hornet’s nest around the media. Chances are a scandal involving the media will erupt as fake news is proved to really be fake news. This energy will continue as Mercury moves toward conjunct with Neptune into February 25th and this will unveil the illusion of the media and their quest for ratings and sensationalism rather than the truth.

As a bonus, Barry has included global and economic, political forecasts for those interested in Mundane astrology. This is definitely a reference book to have on your shelf for practicing astrologers or just people who like to dabble. It will also be useful for both Vedic and Western astrologers.
What Barry’s colleagues are saying:
“This almanac is truly a masterpiece and labor of love. Barry is a gifted astrologer and writer. I have written yearly forecasts for over 30 years and understand the work, knowledge and dedication involved. It is so complete with everything a beginner or advanced student of astrology would need. The references to the planet’s transit through the signs, nakshatras, aspects, dates and times, plus their interpretations is fantastic. He even covers the effects these will have on individual countries. I am sure I will be referring to this manual frequently throughout the year.”
Joni Patry, author and Vedic Astrologer
“Barry Rosen’s brilliant text is a practical guide for any practicing astrologer. His book provides extensive research on the world of Jyotish as well as a detailed analysis of the planetary transits of 2018. My prediction is that it will become a classic cornerstone for any Vedic Astrology library.”
Dennis M. Harness, Ph.D. – President Emeritus, American College of Vedic Astrology.
“Barry Rosen’s reference work is comprehensible for those with minor astrological backgrounds, and is also useful for professionals as a yearly transit and progression guide. As a Neo-Vedic astrologer, Barry also uses the outer planets to help track world events both in finance and on the political and economic scene. Definitely a book to have on your shelf.”
