RETROGRADE JUPITER IN JYESTHA
Retrograde: April 23-August 11, 2019
Direct: August 11, 2019-Nov. 4, 2019
Retrograde benefics are more powerful to do good but theY may be more inward and meditative. Jupiter is bringing a lot of deep inward wisdom and reflection now with its retrograde action until August 11th and we think it is holding up the world as we approach the Mars/Saturn/Ketu/Rahu climax this weekend. We looked at Jan. 12th, 1997 when we last saw this between Saturn and Ketu in Pisces and Mars and Rahu in Virgo and the world did not blow up. Jupiter was controlling Saturn in Ketu in Pisces much as it is today with Ketu and Saturn in Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter also) and Mars and Rahu in Virgo were being supported at that time by benefic Mercury in Sagittarius. Jupiter is the big dog in the sky and can hold the world up with its wisdom. There is more malefic influence for Mercury this time and so Gemini and Virgos may feel more stress from Mars and Saturn and Rahu in transit.
Jupiter is still into the constellation of Jyestha and stays there much of the rest of year into Nov. 4th. In modern astronomy Jyestha is know as Alpha-Scopionis (Antares) and Sigma Scorpionis and Tau-Scorpionis located from 16.40 Scorpio to 29.59 Scorpio. It contains the start of Antares at 16 degrees, which is very connected to war and transits of planets over it lately have stirred up global conflicts and Jupiter going through there will be supportive to prevent conflict. Donald Trump’s moon is in Jyestha and it supporting him also in the 4th house.
The deity of this constellation is Indra, king of the gods and is connected to rain and the abundance it brings in agricultural wealth. It is very connected to prosperity and Donald Trump has his moon in this constellation. Indra is a bit robust, proud, vain, tricky and undefinable in the Puranic stories and it’s no wonder that Trump has some of those qualities. When poorly afflicted, the dark misuse of power, authority and vanity come forth from this constellation but Jupiter going through this constellation will bring out its positive qualities. Still Jupiter in Jyestha should support leadership and and wisdom except when Mercury is poorly afflicted in transit which is the case now with the Mars and Rahu and Ketu aspectes hitting it into June 16-19th time window.
Jyestha is very concerned about what other people think and they need respect and attention. Again in our material world, this energy can get channeled into excessive headless vanity and show and create mob leaders, corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. If your ascendant, Sun (born Dec. 3-15th) or Moon are in this constellation and Mercury is afflicted in your chart, you may be prone to moaning and groaning, jealousy and vindictiveness and wanting to put others down. Again Trump’s personality is a good reminder of the dark side of this constellation. When Jyestha is positive and strong, people with this constellation want to help the weak, the helpless and the underprivileged and they protect others.
The dark side of the constellation reminds us of the Scorpion tail which can bring a lot of self-destructive tendencies and lead to positive transformation or just bad beating one-self up. In the end this constellation is very difficult as it does not create peace of mind. Ultimately, Jyestha’s goal is to confront the mysteries of the universe, face its fears and transform them.
Jupiter does well in this constellation as it can transform through spiritual energy, make clear decisions and honor the material world. Hence it does well with spiritual and material energies and their balancing.
Jupiter will be impacted by where Mercury is in transit as Jupiter will channel Mercury’s energy the rest of the year. Mercury has been strong in Gemini but will get hit by Saturn, Mars and Rahu aspects this weekend so may be a good time to postpone important decisions.
The key with this constellation is be satisfied with what one has and not aspire to pour on more material desires which lead to ultimate dissatisfaction. This constellation demands that you complete the material part of the cycle that began in Leo and get ready spiritual transformation in Sagittarius.
Special thanks to Prash Trivedi and Komilla Sutton for their writings on this constellation.

What fellow astrologers are saying about last year’s edition:
“This almanac is truly a masterpiece and labor of love. Barry is a gifted astrologer and writer. I have written yearly forecasts for over 30 years and understand the work, knowledge and dedication involved. It is so complete with everything a beginner or advanced student of astrology would need. The references to the planet’s transit through the signs, nakshatras, aspects, dates and times, plus their interpretations is fantastic. He even covers the effects these will have on individual countries. I am sure I will be referring to this manual frequently throughout the year.”
