JUPITER AND SATURN IN SHRAVANA
Jupiter transited into Shravana on Jan. 7th and stays there until March 4th and Saturn transits into Shravana on Jan. 23rd and stays there until Feb. 17, 2022.
Modern astronomers say this constellation consists of 3 stars, Altair, Alshain, and Tarazed; and methodologically correspond to the three steps taken by Vishnu. Prash Trivedi notes that the translation of Shravana is “hearing” or ” the one who limps.” It is sometimes connected to the Pipal tree and the sacred tree where Buddha received enlightenment. This constellation is often connected to a trident or an ear and its symbol is to listen and if planets are strong in this constellation it means that one has to learn to be a good listener or to listen to one’s inner voice. It is a constellation often connected to Vedic cognition and listening to the Vedas.
Jupiter does better in Shravana because it is connected to the moon which exalts Jupiter and this connection fosters listening and studying to scriptures. Hence this is a great two month period to listen to sacred chants, particularly Vishnu Sahastranam. Good two month period to take up the study of scripture, doing your chanting and meditation, studying the Vedas, and rediscovering your sacred roots. Time for wisdom and spiritual studies so a good time to take up astrology courses. Because the moon is the dispositor of Jupiter, its transits will impact Jupiter more intensely over the next two months. Transits of the moon through Cancer, Taurus and Libra, and Sagittarius and Pisces will be better than the rest. After the debilitation and spiritual lows, Jupiter reestablishes its desire and returns to wisdom so honor it and you will prosper.
If you were born with Jupiter in Shravana, you may hold orthodox religious or political views, have pure thoughts, and are very philosophical about the world, and a jack of all trades in your ability to do many things. You may be drawn to be a scientist or a clergyman and you have an even temper are happy and thoughtful and gentle and love to travel and have many friends.
Saturn in Shravana is more troubled as the Moon and Saturn are enemies and with Capricorn and Cancer on a 1/7 axis this naturally can set-off relationship challenges as the moon is more intuitive and emotional and Capricorn is more strict and into rules and business and getting the facts right. Saturn needs to learn to relax its rigidity here and give up its desires for rules and rediscover its spiritual nature which is not easy for the materialistic Saturn in Capricorn. There is a great need to move beyond coldness and learn to share emotions and not be afraid of being judged. On a mundane level, Saturn’s connection to the moon will create more emotional stress and fear, and paranoia with Rahu aspecting Capricorn from Taurus. Political persuasion will be stronger with this transit which is not great as so often politicians are not pure in where they are leading us as suggested by the latest Covid mess where lock-downs are imposed even though they are not working. Again, meditation and yoga, and exercise are always the ways to pacify and handle Saturn.
If you were born with Saturn in Shravana, you may be more dogmatically religious but also more gloomy and you may aspire to have a powerful position in a religious organization. There is a craving for money with this natal position and because Capricorn may be a bit unethical at times, there may be a tendency to bend the rules to get what you want so watch yourself. Politicians are often very connected to this constellation and with the influence of the moon, they have a strong ability to sway the masses and the public but are not always ethical enough in doing what is good for the people. According to Prash Trivedi, people born with this constellation tend to be peaceful and persevering even if sometimes stubborn but they like to complete their tasks. They are gentle, kind, amicable and liberal-minded, and reasonable. Its darker side can lead to naivete in falling prey to deception and bad advice. Still, this group of stars is a wonderful combination of business skills and at the same time a softness that puts people at ease.
Since the owner of Shravana, the moon, moves so quickly every 2.5 days, the impact on Saturn can vary greatly. When the moon is weak in Scorpio and Saturn ruled signs or badly afflicted, this transit could lead to excessive generosity leading to debts or being unable to move out of poverty. One might get too caught up in ethical dogma and create enemies. When the moon is strong like in Taurus or Leo or Libra, it can create cordial business relationships, success with foreign countries, love of the scriptures, being drawn to humanitarian causes.
Special thanks to Komilla Sutton and Prash Trivedi for their insights on this constellation.
